What to Do Before Downloading Ringtones

There are several options that users can do when downloading ringtones. They can either establish a connection from the mobile to the computer through wireless or wired connections. But before downloading mobile phone melodies from web portals and network provides, users should be aware of the basic things needed when performing such action. Here is a list of things that users should be aware when downloading tones:

Know the Type of Download:

Ringtones are transferred to mobile phones either through free download or paid download. Either way a user chooses will transfer the tone to the mobile phone. Paid services may ask payment ranging from $2 to $4 for single download. On the other hand, free download does not require users to pay any amount. However, big risks are involved when downloading tones from free servers.

Know the Type of Ringtone:

There are three types of mobile phone melodies, these are monophonic, polyphonic, and truetones. Users should be aware of the type of ringer supported by their mobile phone. Some phones can only support monophonic tones such as those that are released by Nokia on their earlier mobile phones. Other phones are capable of supporting both polyphonic and truetones which are better tones for mobile phones.

Test Tones before Downloading

It is very important that users should test the quality of ringtones before downloading. Several tones have similar labels from other providers making it confusing to determine the exact ringer. Testing ringers is strongly recommended to aid users in downloading the right tone.

Most sites offering tone download have options that allow users to test their desire ringtone. Websites require compatible browsers in order to test tones properly. Some sites include pop-up web pages as the page where users can test their tone. Proper settings for the browser should also be considered.

Know How Tones Should be Sent

Tones can be sent in a form of text messages passing the SMS or MMS standard. On all mobile phones, receiving SMS is not an issue since it's the default industry standard. However, for MMS, it is recommended to activate the service directly from the network provider.

Tones can also be sent by establishing local connections. A simple computer to mobile phone connection can transfer tones to the device. To establish these connections, a computer or laptop must be equipped with either a Bluetooth or Infrared feature. Similar requirement for mobile phones is also needed. Local connections can be initiated by activating these features from both devices. Either of these devices can become the host or the server. But in the case when ringtones are downloaded directly from web portals and stored on a computer, the computer will serve as the server to transfer the file to the mobile device.

Bluetooth connection works better than Infrared in terms of transfer rate and distance for both devices. It can transfer files with in a 360o radius while Infrared can only establish good connection within a maximum of 45o radius.

These are just simple steps that can guide users especially those new to downloading tones in properly storing ringtones for their mobile phones.
